I don’t think it ever gets old going in to capture images in a machine shop… especially when they are looking to be a little creative with select shots. Even though the Client had a somewhat comprehensive shot list, their intention was to draw interest with the photography, but still maintain imagery that provided a solid look at their capabilities.
From the beginning, they conveyed the importance of trying to include a good number of their employees in the images along with capturing the day to day activities… but allowing some flexibility for creativity in areas where we felt it could add visual interest to the overall collection of images.
While I could easily spend hours capturing some fun images in a place like this, it’s extremely important to keep reminding myself that it’s important to not go overboard. Creating art worthy black and white industrial images with tons of motion blur can be fun and make for some good wall art, but it’s critical to know when to draw the line. Making stunning images vs making images that draw interest from my Client’s target audience can be two completely different animals.
