The rubber duck project continues with another commercial / advertising / product style shot captured in studio. The concept came out of a little brain storming session based on “things a rubber duck wouldn’t need”. The paper boat also ties in with the child like sense of things that would also go with having a rubber duck.

The set up for the shot wasn’t anything outside of my “usual”, but it has been quite a long time since I had to fold a paper boat. After four attempts, I finally got one I liked, messed it up by introducing water into the shot (I wanted to see how it would look), made three more attempts and finally ended up with a paper boat that became the winner.

As with many commercial and/or product shots, the time spent setting up, working in props, finessing everything so it’s just right and then making final adjustments can often take between a few minutes to several hours, just for one quick click of the shutter followed by postproduction… but that’s kind of what makes it all worth it. It’s somewhat like building a shed for your back yard. The end result is having a place to store all your lawn equipment, but the enjoyable part is the process of creating something from a pile of lumber.
